Intensive Care Unit

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital was established in 1999 and currently has 38 open beds. It is a key clinical specialty in Guangdong Province and a brand discipline of Shenzhen Medical Management Center.

The department admits more than 1400 patients annually, with APACHEII scores greater than 15 accounting for about 50% and a rescue success rate of over 90%. It treats critically ill patients such as sepsis and septic shock, severe acute pancreatitis, severe pneumonia, complex abdominal infections, cardiogenic shock, severe pulmonary vascular disease, critically ill pregnant women, gastrointestinal bleeding, cardiac and respiratory arrest, multiple trauma, high-risk perioperative patients, respiratory failure, circulatory failure, liver and kidney failure, and multiple organ failure. The department's specialties include precision diagnosis and treatment of sepsis, individualized treatment of severe acute pancreatitis, support and maintenance of vital organs for critically ill patients, comprehensive treatment of severe pulmonary vascular disease, and critical rehabilitation.

The department has fully implemented various technologies required by the national regional medical center, especially proficient in PK/PD guidance for the treatment of severe infections and sepsis patients with anti infective drugs, precise guidance for shock diagnosis and volume management through hemodynamic monitoring (Swan Ganz floating catheter, PICCO, severe ultrasound), individualized setting of mechanical ventilation parameters through respiratory mechanics guidance, ECMO treatment for severe ARDS and circulatory failure, various hybrid blood purification treatments for MODS and autoimmune diseases, epidural block analgesia for severe acute pancreatitis, enteral and parenteral nutrition support, precise management of severe coagulation, and has developed advanced technologies such as extracorporeal electrical positioning and intubation through the nasal emptying tube, extracorporeal carbon dioxide clearance, transesophageal pressure measurement, artificial liver support, etc.

The intensive care nursing team is a specialized nursing team that integrates clinical nursing, nursing teaching, and nursing research, with advanced management concepts and critical care techniques for critically ill patients. At present, there are 84 nursing staff, including 1 senior professional title and 34 intermediate professional titles; There are 2 graduate students, 3 current graduate students, and 74 undergraduate students. The team has trained 20 specialized nurses from multiple perspectives, all of whom are playing a leading and exemplary role in clinical nursing. The team has become a training base for critical care specialist nurses in Shenzhen, and has been honored with the title of Excellent Nursing Team in Shenzhen. They have also taken the lead in developing multiple new technologies in Shenzhen, including ARDS prone ventilation technology, which has been recognized as a suitable technology by the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, extracorporeal diaphragm pacing technology, which has been awarded as a provincial-level cutting-edge technology project for high-level hospital construction, PMDI airway nebulization inhalation technology, non-invasive cough rehabilitation system technology, and more.
